Boston University's Opera Institute presents Emmeline

Boston University’s Opera Institute mounts a new production of Tobias Picker’s acclaimed first opera, Emmeline,directed by Jim Petosa and conducted by William Lumpkin. The production, in the reduced version for chamber orchestra, opens on February 23 at the Boston University Theatre and runs through February 26. Emmeline, which received its world premiere at the Santa Fe Opera in 1996 and was revived in a widely lauded production at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2015, has been hailed as “one of the best operas written in the past 25 years” (The Wall Street Journal) and “a work of gripping emotional intensity and extraordinary musical expressivity” (The Dallas Morning News).  Also this month, the Orchester der Technischen Universität Braunschweig gives a performance of Picker’s beloved orchestral tone poem Old and Lost Rivers in Braunschweig, Germany, led by Markus Lüdke (February 5), and Christopher Russell leads the Azusa Pacific University Symphony Orchestra in the West Coast premiere of Picker’s orchestral work And Suddenly It’s Evening(March 3). For more information on Tobias Picker, visit schott-music.com.
